Car Hire at Syracuse Hancock Intl Airport

Buyers beware! Avis charged me for a half tank of gas even though I filled up the full tank and also took pictures of it. They are just a total rip off. This particular AVIS was at SYR Airport.

When I reserved online it said I could add drivers for free. When I picked up the car I did not have the other drivers w me and was told no problem and to come back before we left later that afternoon. I picked up from Donna and she was great, tried to give me a car I didn't reserve even though they had the one I requested but ultimately got the car I wanted. Later that afternoon when I came to add the additional drivers I was told it would be $3 a day for each of them. I told the girl one of the drivers only needed to be on for the 1st 2 days. She was overly rude, rolling her eyes with an attitude towards us. She told me it didn't matter and walked away. Went and got another employee to help w one of the other drivers cards. When I turned in the car not only was I charged for them both but the entire time when one of them only drove for that day that we got the vehicle and the night.

I was able to exchange the car I had ordered for a larger car that was available for no additional cost, Thanks!

I showed up to find out there were no cars available even with the reservation. After leaving the airport I was able to make another reservation about 2 hours later. There is no way to call the Representatives at the airport to find out if there were in fact cars there. So I called what must have been an Alamo corporate office and was assured there were in fact cars available. I then went back to the airport to pick up a car to find out there are still no cars available. Alamo enterprise, hertz, the entire fleet at the Syracuse airport was allowing reservations but had no cars to rent. This was an absolutely miserable experience.

I never even thought was able too rent a car because they wanted us too have a major credit card. But they had no problem taking almost 800$ out of my account and it’s been 2 weeks and I still haven’t received my money back.

The Prius was a true economy car. We got 55MPG! The car was comfortable and was a smooth ride.

I tried two days but couldn't get the car for rent, at the office administrators denied to to gave the car while I was paying by credit card, because of this I missed my trip to Niagara for two days.

The SUV was quite comfortable but was filthy when we picked it up. Originally I thought I requested a small SUV but when I got to the counter I was told otherwise. He offered an upgrade for the infinity SUV so I agreed. After paying and picking up the vehicle it was noted to be filthy and smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. To the point it made us nauseated. I am on chemotherapy and we also had a 5 year old with us. Me being on chemo made the smoke sensitivity worse. We were in a tight deadline after we picked it up to get to our destination so I couldn’t exchange it. I mentioned it to the clerk in the parking garage but was told us have to go back inside the airport. As above, we didn’t have time to spare. Upon return I mentioned to the attendant in the airport, she took my name and number then assured me a manager would call. It’s been 3 days later now and no phone call. Very disappointed in this transaction and likely to never rent from Payless again. Would ultimately appreciate some sort of compensation for the filthy vehicle.

Pick up and drop off were simple.

The pickup process for Dollar is broken. They make reservations without having the cars to fill them. Every other company had no line, while Dollar had 15 people in line because they had no cars to rent. We waited an hour for a car to “be cleaned” and given to us. The employee was unapologetic and dressed in athletic shorts and a gray T-shirt while giving the impression that he didn’t care. Meanwhile, I returned the car 18 hours ago and I still haven’t seen a turn in receipt in my email. Pay the extra money and rent from someone else.

CSR’s were lacking in courtesy.

I reserved weeks ahead of time, but when I got there, thu said that they didn't have a car. They explained that they book many more reservations than they actually have cars for. They didn't seem to care about that policy negatively affecting travelers. I waited for two hours, and was eventually able to get a car. Th clerk wasn't apologetic in the slightest.
