My rental experience in Kauai was very poor, in stark contrast to a very positive experience I had with Hertz in Maui. We paid more in Kauai for less rental days and received a much more inferior vehicle. It was six years old, had no car play, and was covered in dings and some rust. But the worst part was the customer service. The rep wasn’t friendly at all. She added charges to our rental for roadside service and insurance, even though I didn’t agree to them. When it came to roadside service, she asked do you want the “Good,” “Better,” or “Best” package? She never said I could choose none of the three. Then I had to sign the credit card terminal before seeing what I was agreeing to. It was only after signing that she gave me the itemized rental agreement. I complained about the charges to someone else, and they eventually removed them. But the rep who helped me this time was also rude and even condescending. She asked me why I agreed to the charges if I didn’t want them, even though I already told her I didn’t agree to them. Then she told me, “you need to read the contract before you sign.” As I mentioned earlier, the credit card terminal they have you sign doesn’t show or itemize what you’re agreeing to. Bottom line: I would NOT rent from this Hertz location again.
